Beagles come in three sizes: standard, pocket, and 1/2 pocket. Standard beagles
eventually reach a height of 13-15" and a weight of 25-30 pounds. Pocket
beagles, however, only reach 10-12" and 15-20 pounds. Beagles that are 1/2
pocket have one parent that is pocket-sized and one that is standard.
Because they are preferred by many people, and because they are not as common as standard beagles, pocket beagles have a higher initial expense.
The term "pocket beagle" simply refers to the dog's smaller size. While a handy term, it does not represent a separate AKC designation or breed.
